Morgan Watkins
Hi, my name is Morgan Watkins and I was a junior in Animal Sciences at Purdue this past year. I was accepted into Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine for this coming fall and I’m super excited to begin my journey as a future veterinarian! I decided to participate in this REEU program because I am eager to gain new skills, as I have no previous experience doing field work, designing a research project, or conducting research with a team of people. This is also my first experience with Purdue’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, and I’m excited to learn more about wildlife science and the wildlife side of animal science.
I have volunteered at Wildcare Inc. in Bloomington, Indiana where I helped rehabilitate and release animals back into the wild. I have worked in a laboratory with mice and rats studying epilepsy, and have worked as a ward assistant at a small animal clinic. Additionally, I also have experience milking cows and doing calf-care through the Purdue Dairy unit and have volunteered during farrow times at the Purdue Swine unit and through the foal-watch program at Purdue’s VTH Large Animal Hospital. I am looking forward to learning more about wildlife in the nearby forests here in West Lafayette and I’m excited for the opportunity to conduct research this summer during the cicada boom. I am also looking forward to the friends I will make during these eight weeks.
