Jonathan Shimizu: Week 4 Recap
We are halfway through the program and Michael and I are still rating trees. So far we’ve rated about a thousand butternut trees and still have a few hundred more to go. We began organizing and rating our final plot late this past week. Thankfully, Michael and I have dramatically sped up our rating process so this final plot shouldn’t take very long. Our goal is to begin collecting samples and analyzing them in the lab by the end of next week. Even though we enjoy flagging trees, looking at disgusting cankers, and making virtual maps of plots, we’re both ready for something new.
This week I got to visit the Columbian Park Zoo during Memorial Day and I loved seeing the wallabies and butterflies! The emus were a little terrifying and looked ready to fight anyone and anything. I can’t wait to see what the next week offers!
