Hi everyone! My name is Magdalena. I graduated from Purdue May of 2019 with a bachelor’s degree of science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. I chose that major because I am in love with the ocean, specifically marine biology. On the left is a picture of me doing one of my most favorite activities. Scuba diving!  When I was a transitioning sophomore, Purdue did not offer what is now the new concentration in marine sciences. Because of this, I focused heavily on freshwater systems in-class, and marine systems in the field by studying abroad and participating in practicum opportunities. Purdue offered opportunities that allowed me to work hands-on in the field and to think critically when writing or problem-solving. The most recent opportunity I took advantage of is the REEU hosted by the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. I was selected to be part of the herpetology focus group. I am thankful to be apart of this program because I know that it will bring challenges. Research is always challenging because it requires you to be knowledgeable of a topic but to also develop plans to answer questions pertaining to those topics. The staff and mentors in charge of the program are highly qualified, skilled people that will push the students to reach their greatest potential. The skills that we develop from the REEU will follow us out of college and into our future careers and endeavors.  Personally, I hope to go on to work across the U.S. and Latin America a bit before pursuing a master’s degree.
