This week was a good week. We continued to deploy our model frogs and gather data. On Monday we deployed our second round of models. We hiked all day, and I ripped my second pair of pants. Every time we deploy frogs, Nigel, Maggie, and I place bets on what the attack rate will be. I guessed 30% and I won the bet for Deployment 2! We will see who wins next week. It is really exciting to be getting the attack rates we have. The excitement of Nigel telling me a model has been attacked never wears off.
One thing I am very proud of our group for is that we have become more efficient as a team. It is taking us less time to deploy and pick up our models every round. We are efficient and can get the work done fast and right. I am really glad I am in the herps group because I feel we are an excellent team with a super cool project.
Another highlight of this week was the Grandparents at Purdue program came to Martell. It was heartwarming to see two different generations coming together to learn about nature. I think it is a program more people should get involved in. They got to do a lot of cool stuff like set up scent stations, electrofishing, and shoot dart guns.
Next week we will not be deploying models; however, we will be planning our activities for the two extension events that are coming up. I am excited to explore the extension portion of this internship because I am seriously considering a future career as an extension specialist. I think it will be a great way to investigate and gain experience in a possible career field. I also think working with kids is fun, and I think next week will be a blast.
